It’s arranged, and it’s done in a perfect Japanese way!” ![]() ![]() “That’s what we agreed with Kazunori-san. It’s just an acceptance of the non-exclusive approach, and we feel that esports needs to be more open. “But we still work with Gran Turismo on many other projects. It’s also easier for us because it’s more open to many countries. “So we agreed with them that we will work with Assetto Corsa for this one. “For Motorsport Games, the difficulty we had at that point is that they weren’t necessarily ready to support the live event as we wanted, because of GT7 and all. “It’s not over,” said Bertrand, when asked about the status of the FIA’s partnership with Gran Turismo. The game’s launch is far from hassle-free, having been beset from the start by a series of glitches and issues with the online experience in the lobbies. Speaking exclusively to, Frederic Bertrand, director of Formula E and the FIA’s Innovative Sporting Activities Department, explained that the governing body had agreed with Gran Turismo boss Kazunori Yamauchi to put things on hold until the platform GT7 became more stable. Speaking at a Motorsport Games launch event at the French Grand Prix on Saturday, however, the FIA has made it clear that the relationship with Gran Turismo is far from over. Speculation that the FIA had chosen to take a different path on the games front was further fueled by choosing to use the Assetto Corsa Competizione platform for its Esport element of the upcoming Motorsport Games, which are taking place in and around the Paul Ricard circuit. The FIA name has quietly disappeared from the current championship and is not part of the latest World Series event taking place at Red Bull’s Hangar 7 in Austria next weekend. However, things have changed since the release of the latest Gran Turismo 7 game earlier this year. This included regular online competitions and a number of select esports events around the world, which culminated in a World Series final. Motorsport’s governing body had previously been officially linked to the PlayStation exclusive series of games, with an FIA-certified Gran Turismo World Series from 2018 to 2021.
